Horse Safari – Reitsafari / Windhoek
Tack. We use comfortable skirted saddles (endurance type) to properly fit the horse as well as the rider. You may bring your own western shaped sheepskin bumnah if you normally ride with one. You will be responsible for grooming, checking over and tacking up your own horse.
Riding experince. Fitness, good health, experience in horse riding and handling horses are essential in order to be able to enjoy these rides. You must feel totally at ease on the back of a cantering horse; and you must be secure and balanced in the saddle at all paces for many hours a day.
Terrain. We travel through rocky hills and riverbeds, gravel plains, open sandy plains and undulating sand dunes – occasionally you may need to dismount and walk with your horse. The rides are challenging, and therefore require riders with strong personalities and a sense of humor that will see you through the tough moments!
Distance. On average we cover 20-50 km a day, spending up to eight hours in the saddle on some days. Pace depends on the terrain and temperatures as well as on fitness and weight of riders with walk, trot, canter and gallop. Group sizes vary but have a max. of 15 riders plus 2 – 3 riding guides.
About. In 2009 Sarah Jane Gullick decided to sell up her ‘African Horseback Safaris’ in Botswana and bought ReitSafari from Waldi Fritzsche and renamed the Company the Namibia Horse Safari Company.
